Civil War Days in Branch County Memorial Weekend

(PLEASE PRINT THIS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS.) Re-enactment Guidelines and Camp Rules GATE OPENING AND CLOSING: Gates will be opened to the public Sat & Sun at 9:00 a.m. each morning, and closed at 5:00 p.m. each night. PARKING: Re-enactor parking is available adjacent to and just south of the Pierce Hall. Re-enactors with horse trailers or artillery trailers will have assigned parking. No vehicles of any type are to remain in the re-enactment areas after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, nor enter the area until after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Other arrangements need to be approved by the Command Post in South Hall. CAMP ASSIGNMENTS: Camp assignments will be provided at registration. Military, civilians, sutlers, food vendors, may begin set-up at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and must be completed by 8:30 a.m. Saturday & Sunday at 9:00 a.m. All vehicles must be in the designated parking areas. Tent placement MUST be approved by campground coordinator before tents can be pitched. Fire pits allowed only in designated areas. Breaking down of camps may begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Campsites will be inspected by Event Coordinators within the Command Post before departure. All campsites must be returned to original condition. AMENITIES: Firewood and water will be available for all re-enactors. NO SALES without prior approval from the Memorial Weekend Committee. Ice and bottled water can be purchased from the Command Post in South Hall. A hog roast will be held on Sunday, 12:00 noon, free to all registered re-enactors in period clothing with dinner tickets. RESTROOMS: Modern restrooms are located on the north end of the fairgrounds by the amphitheater (with showers), and to the east of and directly across from the Schlubatis building. FIRST AID/ EMERGENCY CARE: If any first aid is needed for injuries or accidents, bring it to the attention at the Command Post in South Hall immediately. If a Hospital or Emergency Room is needed, go out the east fairgrounds entrance, turn left, and go approximately one mile. The Hospital Emergency Room is located on the right side. (Corner of Chicago St) For minor injuries, a first aid kit will be located at Command Post in South Hall. GENERAL RULES: 1. Should you see an unsafe situation, report it immediately to the nearest authority, (unit Commander, Host Unit, or Command Post). PUBLIC AND RE-ENACTOR SAFETY COMES FIRST!
2. Parents are responsible for their children's safety.
3. Parents are financially responsible for their children's behavior.
4. All participants, including civilians, MUST be quiet from 11:00 p.m. each night until reveille the next morning. NO EXCEPTIONS.
5. Re-enactor Coordinators within the Command Post, and the US/CSA Command Staff are to deal with the re-enactors behavior and problems of any type. Their decisions are final.
6. Drunken, disorderly, destructive, or loud behavior will not be tolerated. Any damage caused will be the direct responsibility of the person(s) involved and the local authorities will be contacted. The Post Command has the authority to have anyone removed from the events that are breaking any rules. No alcohol or drugs are allowed on site.
7. Any disruptive or unsafe behavior at the Barn Dance will result in expulsion from that event.
8. Security will be provided on Friday and Saturday nights. MODERN ITEMS: Many of the spectators enjoy the living history and camp life aspects of the event. Modern items such as coolers, cell phones, water bottles, beverage and food containers, and flashlights should be hidden within the confines of your tent at all times during the event. Any visible items for your camp areas should portray the Civil War Era.Military Unit commanders will meet with Battlefield Coordinator at 10a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. INFANTRY: 1. Absolutely no live ammunition or modern weapons are allowed. 2. No weapons will be discharged in camp areas. 3. All infantry will refrain from advancing close enough to an artillery unit to create an unsafe situation. 4. All participants should have a full canteen upon the battle.
ARTILLERY: 1. Artillery pieces and artillerymen must pass safety inspections and drills in order to participate in demonstrations and battles. The Artillery Commander's decisions are final. 2. Any artillery unit must refrain from firing their weapon if the safety margin is compromised. CAVALRY: 1. All riders must provide a copy of their horses current, negative Coggins Test upon arrival at registration. 2. Hay and water will be provided for each rider's horse. 3. Water containers will need be provided by horses owner. 4. Each rider is responsible for their mount, including their behavior. 5. No animal cruelty will be tolerated. CLEAN-UP: All trash must be placed in the proper containers throughout the weekend, so that it may be picked up. All leftover firewood should be stacked by the road in your unit's area. Any straw/hay should be cleaned up. Unit Commanders will be responsible for the condition of camp areas. END OF EVENT AND DEPARTURE: Vehicles will not be allowed onto the camp sites until 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
