SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

11/05/2009 The Branch County Historical Society's annual Holiday Home Tour will be held the 1st Saturday the 5th of December from noon  to 7:00 P.M. As of this posting, 16 properties are listed for the tour in Coldwater/Quincy.

BCHS is looking for volunteers to help in hosting at some of the homes/sites during the day. Whatever time you can help in volunteering will be greatly appreciated. Contact Dave McDonald @ 517-278-2671 on what hours you can help with on December 5.

This a great chance to see up close some of the properties dating as far back to the Civil Era, and appreacate the work that has gone into keeping these homes in a time capsule.

At the one property (Chicago Pike Inn) members of the Civil War will be caroling throughtout the day of the home tour. You are welcome to join in, if you enjoy caroling.

10/14/2009From Wednesday's local Daily Reporter Newspaper

Coldwater, Mich. -

It may be early but the committee that sponsors and coordinates the now annual Memorial Day weekend Civil War Reenactments got the city of Coldwater to again allocate $3,000 for the program at its Monday night council meeting.

Treasurer Walt Lane said the amount necessary for the program is $14,000, the rest of which will come from fundraisers and contributions. Because of the economy business donations have diminished.

Each of the first three years, the attendance has grown and Chairman Bob Stewart expects larger crowds this year. He told the council the local organization has attended Civil War reenactments in a four state area to promote the Coldwater event. “That will help our attendance.”

The city donation will allow all students under age 18 free admittance to the fairground events Saturday and Sunday.

Added this year is a Friday education event for all Coldwater school fourth and fifth graders. Stewart said students would be bussed to the encampment during the day for programs. To defray costs, there would be a dollar per student charge.

MID MICHIGAN CIVIL WAR MUSTER

SEPTEMBER 18-19-20, 2009

DEERFIELD NATURE PARK

2425 W. REMUS RD - MT. PLEASANT, MI

The park is located approximately 6 miles - west of Mount Pleasant on M-20.

Deerfield Nature Park is a tremendous opportunity to explore true reenacting camp life at it's best. There is wildlife in abundance with over 591 acres of woods, fields, natural trails, swimming, fishing, two swinging bridges as well as a covered bridge, hand water pumps and artesian wells.

We will have separate areas for Federal military and civilians; Confederate military and civilians. New campsites in wooded areas have been selected for the Federal and Confederate military camps as they should be campaign style (army on the march). We would ask that you please set up any A-Frames or Wall Tents in the civilian camp area.

The 2009 schedule is as follows:

Thursday September 17, 2009 – Registration opens at 1:00 pm for reenactor set up

Friday September 18, 2009 – Living History Camps, Drills, and Demonstrations for local school American History classes from 10 am to 12 noon. Registration will reopen at 1:00 pm for Reenactor set up.

Company Drills

Speed Shooting Contest

Frying Pan Throw Contest

Memorial Service

Candle light tours of Camps on Saturday night

Civil war era Fashion show

A musical talent show – If you play an instrument,

please bring it and join in!

Sunday Church Service

and so much more!

This muster will offer reenactors THREE {3} battle reenactments on THREE {3} different sites. Two are scripted while the third is the annual tactical which is being offered in a new location for 2009.

As 2009 is the 145th anniversary of 1864, the time frame of reference for the program is 1864 in the West. Saturday's battle will recreate events from the fight at "Buzzard's Roost, Georgia".

Sunday's battle will feature the little known skirmish at "Mount Pleasant, Tennessee". Yes, we will fight the "Battle of Mt. Pleasant" !!

Please send us a short email to confirm your attendance and obtain your registration forms. Thank you for your continued support of the annual Mid Michigan Civil War Muster in Mount Pleasant.

Bob Stewart Received a call from Larry this morning-he had been contacted by someone who attended the play "The Civil War" at the Barn Theater in Augusta.  They indicated that it was super & had a 5 minutes standing ovation.  It is being performed August 25-30
The times are: Thurs. & Friday -8:30 / Sat. 6:00 & 9:00 / Sunday 5:00.
You may order over the phone: 269-731-4121.  Their website is: www.barntheatre.com.
The reviews I have been read have all been positive.

Got this from; Michigan Civil War Reenactors some of you may be interested.

A reminder that all are invited to join us for a 150th Anniversary Founders Day at St. John's Church in Detroit, Michigan. St. John's is located next to Comerica Park, on the corner of Woodward Avenue and I-75. Plentiful gated parking is available next to the Church.
On Sunday, July 26th we will have the Dodworth Saxhorn Band with us to play the prelude and postlude to the 10am Service. The service itself will be from the orginal American Episcopal Prayer book, with hymns from the period as well. After the service there will be an ice cream social in the garden.
We would love to have a large number of civil war era reenactors present for the service in order to give a sense of what the Church might have looked like around the time of its founding in 1859. The founder of the parish, Henry Porter Baldwin, was a founder of the Republican Party, actively campaigned for President Lincoln, and was later the governor of Michigan and US Senator.
The media has also been invited, and this will be a good opportunity to drum up interest in Civil War era reenacting.
More information on the church and day can be found at
